Hi,
The following story was born out of a phrase “there was a knock at the door…”. Hope you like it.
A Visitor at Night
It was a hot night and the lights were off. I got out of bed and went downstairs towards the living room. Everything was silent except for the rocking chair. My grandfather usually sits rocking on his rocking chair.
Slowly, I groped in the dark making my way to the kitchen. Drinking some cool water from the fridge, I turned to see a dark shadow at the door. As I moved, something hit me on my head. And there was nothing but darkness and silence. When I recovered, nobody was there. Maybe I had hit my head on the kitchen door.
Then I heard the grandfather clock strike twelve. “Ding Dong!”….. Suddenly there was a knock at the door, followed by a horrible screech. I was terrified. But still I bravely went towards a window and looked out. A dark shadow outside shouted. “Open the door, you Idiot”, “It’s me… Don’t you recognize me?” It sounded familiar, but who was it? Was it my father’s friend? No, it was not. But then who else?
I went and called my mother. My father too came down and bravely opened the door. We saw a dark man swaying at the door. As soon as he saw us, he fainted. We just left him lying on our doorstep and went upstairs to sleep, hoping he would recover and leave by morning. And he did! This man was none other than the plain old drunkard who usually went about shouting curses on everybody.
Regards,
Rupashri
